WiN UK strengthens talent pipeline with first academic Charter Signatory

Women in Nuclear UK (WiN UK) is delighted to welcome the School of Engineering at Lancaster University as the first academic institution to sign its Charter (Charter | Women in Nuclear UK).

The news marks an important step in evolving how the organisation works with higher education.

WiN UK has an established track record of engaging students at primary, secondary and further education levels, alongside a long-standing collaboration with industry. While relationships with universities already exist, this milestone reflects a move towards a more coordinated and strategic approach to engaging with academia.

Through closer collaboration with higher education institutions, WiN UK aims to enhance opportunities available to students; including mentoring, work placements, personal development opportunities and exposure to the full breadth of careers within nuclear, including – but by no means limited to – STEM roles.

By becoming a Charter Signatory, Lancaster University is helping to shape a more structured partnership model – one that connects education and industry more effectively and supports women at a critical transition point in their career journey.

Clare Sharpe, President of Women in Nuclear UK, said: “Women in Nuclear UK has long been committed to supporting the development of future talent, from early outreach through to industry careers. Strengthening how we work with Higher Education is a natural and important progression of that effort.

“We are delighted to welcome Lancaster University as our first academic Charter Signatory. Their leadership in this space represents an important step towards a more coordinated approach – one that better connects education and industry and supports women at a critical stage in their career journey.”

WiN UK is delighted that Lancaster University is leading the way by committing to our Charter. Their support will help to establish a partnership model that we intend to build on with other academic institutions as part of our work to inspire the next generation.
