WiN UK’s former Patron, Adriènne Kelbie appointed a CBE

Women in Nuclear (WiN) UK’s former Patron, Adriènne Kelbie, has been appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2020 for services to the nuclear industry and to diversity and inclusion.

Adriènne served as WiN UK’s first Patron for three years between 2016 and 2019, when she also became the first female Executive Director and Chief Executive of the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).

Adriènne said:

“Inclusion goes hand in hand with safety, because diverse teams are essential to improve decision making – therefore it’s a non-negotiable in nuclear. That’s why, as Chief Executive of ONR, I’ve been personally committed to visibly drive the inclusion agenda and encourage others to do so too.

“To be appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) is an accolade for which I am enormously grateful; it strengthens my commitment to continue to inspire others to be their biggest, best, boldest selves – and change our world for the better.

“I really admire the work of WiN UK, and I’m proud of the people I’ve met, who’ve made real changes for our collective good in our industry.”

Lynsey Valentine, President of WiN UK and Strategic Director of Cavendish Nuclear said:

“I am delighted that Adriènne has received this honour, which is richly deserved. Adriènne has worked tirelessly to provide visible leadership in promoting the gender balance agenda across our industry, and her contribution has made a significant positive impact.

“She has inspired many organisations and individuals to make a difference, and her continued energy and enthusiasm for making tangible change happen has driven others to recognise the benefits of a truly inclusive mindset.

“On behalf of everyone at WiN UK I would like to add my warmest congratulations.”

WiN UK’s mission is to address the industry’s gender balance, improving the representation of women in leadership, and engaging with the public on nuclear issues.
