In celebration of International Women’s Day, women and men from across the nuclear industry in Suffolk gathered in March to share ideas on how they could work together to improve gender balance in the sector.
Employees from Magnox’s Sizewell A, EDF’s Sizewell B and Sizewell C, and the Women in Nuclear UK’s Network were at the event held at Suffolk New College.
Lucy Welsh, Co-Chair of the London and Southeast Women in Nuclear Regional Team, said:
“This was a fantastic opportunity to work collaboratively with like-minded individuals from across the sector. Geraldine Kennedy-Brown, WiN UK’s Executive Lead for Industry Guidance, did a fantastic job of raising awareness of WiN UK and highlighting their mission to improve gender balance.
“It was really useful to learn about how WiN UK is working with businesses, as well as individuals inside and outside of the sector to attract more women to the sector and help women progress their careers.’’
Phoebe Lynch from Magnox Sizewell A said:
“It was great to meet old colleagues and friends as well as make new ones. It really feels as though this is the start of collaborative working that will continue to grow. It is so important to get the chance to network, share experiences, ideas and opportunities”
All agreed that this event acted as a ‘cookie cutter’ model to roll out this type of collaborative event regionally.
