Partnership set to further gender diversity and inclusion in UK nuclear

Three leading organisations in the nuclear sector are joining forces to help improve gender diversity within the industry.

Women in Nuclear (WiN), Young Generation Network (YGN) and the Nuclear Skills Strategy Group (NSSG) will collaborate to support delivery of the ambitions as set out in the Nuclear Sector Deal:

  • 40% of the UK nuclear workforce to be female by 2030
  • 30% of executives to be female by 2030
  • 50% of annual apprenticeship starts to be female

Building on progress to-date, the partnership, will leverage the knowledge, skills and capabilities of each organisation, to deliver a co-ordinated, sector wide approach to diversity and inclusion.

Ahead of a formal launch in May, the partnership is looking for creative and innovative suggestions for a name that accurately captures the ambitions of the collaboration.  Please send suggestions to nssgmembers@cogentskills.com with selected entries invited to be part of the launch event.

Over an initial five years, the partners will engage in a number of wide-ranging strategic initiatives to boost gender diversity.  From careers outreach activity designed to attract girls and women into the industry to the development of female leaders within the workforce. The collaboration represents a major push for the attraction, retention and development of skills within the UK Nuclear Industry.

Further details regarding the scope of the partnership and the planned activities are covered in a Memorandum of Understanding
