SUMMARY:Sizewell C Gender Balance Network & WiN Event: What more can we do to embrace diversity in areas of growth within the nuclear sector?
DESCRIPTION:This event will be jointly hosted by WiN and Size C Gender Balance Network to coincide with the two year anniversary of the creation of the Sizewell C Gender Balance Network. \nThe theme for this event is ‘what more can we do to embrace diversity in areas of growth within the nuclear sector’ \nHear from the guest speakers below and have the opportunity to listen to career journeys and experiences of the industry: \nAdrienne Kelbie has led ONR (the GB nuclear safety regulator) for five years\, alongside which she served as Women in Nuclear UK’s Patron for three years\, and is a Trustee of CareTech Charitable Foundation. In all three roles\, she’s known for her supportive\, straight talking and inspirational style. While leading positive cultural\, procedural and performance changes at ONR\, she has challenged the most senior tables in the nuclear industry to do better at including cognitive diversity in the interest of achieving the best possible outcomes. She is widely regarded as a visible champion\, mentor\, and role model for inclusion and is known never to let an ask for help go unanswered. These achievements led to her being awarded the rare distinction of Honorary Fellow of the Nuclear Institute\, winning the prestigious Norther Power Women’s Transformational Leader award\, and being honoured with a CBE for services to inclusion and the nuclear sector. \nGwen Parry-Jones started her career in 1989 as a reactor physicist at Magnox’s Wylfa power station before taking up several management position at British Energy and then EDF Energy in UK and Canada. In 2008 she became the Station Director of Heysham 1 power station and was the first women in the UK to have run a Nuclear power station. During her time at EDF Energy\, Gwen was also awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to science and energy. Previous to joining Magnox Ltd\, Gwen was the Executive Director of Operations Development at Horizon Nuclear Power. Gwen is the current president of the Nuclear Institute and is also a fellow of the Institute of Physics. \nJulia Pyke is Director of the Financing for Sizewell C and is working with the Government to identify an innovative way for Sizewell C to be funded at best value to electricity consumers and with potential investors and lenders to raise the capital required. Prior to her move to Sizewell C\, Julia was head of Power and Renewables for UK\, US and Europe at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP. At HSF\, She led a cross-practice team advising on nuclear\, wind\, biomass and tidal projects. Julia is a fellow of the Energy of Institute\, member of the CBI Energy & Climate Change Board and advisory board for Business in the community\, East of England. \nThere will be a second optional hour  (2-3pm) where people can choose to stay for smaller group discussion with mentors. \nTo register please email: gender.balance@sizewellc.com \n
